                    REBAR COLUMN COLLAPSES

             IRON WORKERS BUILD REBAR COLUMN

The Construction Writers Association awarded the Gordon B. Wright Photography Award (Honourable Mention) to Richard Gilbert in 2008, for a photo entitled Collapsed Rebar Tower (top left). The photo published in the Journal of Commerce shows engineers inspecting a collapsed rebar column, during the construction of the Pitt River Bridge in Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada. The nine-meter tower of rebar fell over, when a crane hit a guy wire. The steel structure was repaired and forms one of the support pylons for the bridge. The photo on the right was taken by Gilbert several days before the collapse. It shows iron workers erecting another steel tower on the same project.
